About Plage de Pissevache
Plage de Pissevache (often spelled Pissevaches) is a stretch of wild sand beach on the Aude coast in the commune of Fleury, just north of the resort of Saint-Pierre-la-Mer. It lies between the Pissevaches lagoon, a small salt pond behind the dunes, and the La Grande Cosse campsite, with the Cabanes de Fleury naturist area further north beyond a short textile strip. The beach is long, flat and backed by low dunes, with fine sand and a gently shelving sea. The naturist section begins roughly 600 m north of the lagoon path junction, at a small white 'Zone naturiste' sign, and becomes more isolated the further north you walk. Nude bathing here has a long history: the commune authorised it in 1974, when access was linked to the naturist centre of La Grande Cosse, but that centre was sold in 2016 and reopened as an ordinary campsite in 2017, so today the beach is used by independent naturists. It is spacious and quiet; on a mid-August day in 2019 about a hundred naturists were spread out at wide intervals. Kitesurfers also use this coast and some visitors feel they are squeezing the naturist area.
Getting there
Drive to Saint-Pierre-la-Mer and continue to the end of the road by the tennis courts and sailing school, where there is a large free car park. Take the path along the Pissevaches lagoon to the left, pass a wooden barrier, cross a small bridge and head for the beach, then walk north until the 'Zone naturiste' sign; allow 10-15 minutes. Paths are sandy and unsuitable for wheelchairs. There are no facilities on the naturist section, so bring water and shade.
What visitors say
Visitors value Pissevache for its space, quiet and natural setting, contrasting it with the busier Cabanes de Fleury naturist area to the north. People spread out widely and the atmosphere is relaxed. Several reviewers say there are no showers, toilets or food on the beach, and some complain that kitesurfing is taking up more of the shore. One directory describes the area as wild but less welcoming because of the nearby river mouth; others report it nearly empty even in high season. A gay guide lists the northern part as a meeting area.

Legal context
France.fr records a municipal authorisation for naturism at Pisse-Vache, Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, dated 11 December 1974, originally reserved for members of the La Grande Cosse naturist centre; that centre turned textile in 2017. A board at the lagoon states that naturism is authorised on part of the beach, and the zone is marked by a sign (as of 2019). In France simple nudity is not itself an offence, but 'exhibition sexuelle' (Penal Code art. 222-32) can be charged where nudity is imposed on others, so nudity is safest on beaches authorised or tolerated by the commune.
Naturism at Plage de Pissevache sits under France's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
