About Plage de l'Aiguille (Théoule-sur-Mer)

The Pointe de l'Aiguille is a small headland of red Esterel porphyry at Théoule-sur-Mer, just west of Cannes, protected as a 7-hectare departmental nature park with pines, paths and views over the bay to the Lérins Islands. Several small beaches sit around it: a pebble cove at the foot of the point reached by steps, the beach of the Grotte de Gardanne with an underwater snorkelling trail, and, beyond the Gardanne cave, a third small cove that is known as a naturist spot. The main Plage de l'Aiguille, a longer sandy beach with a restaurant and a private concession, is not the nude area. The naturist cove is rocky and pebbly, with very clear water, and it is used by a small number of regulars because reaching it is difficult. Nudity is tolerated by custom rather than designated. Bring everything with you; there are no services on the cove itself.

Getting there

Park in the departmental park car park below the RD 6098, on the left as you leave Théoule towards Fréjus, or come by bus 22 from Cannes or train to Théoule station. Steep paths lead down to the coves in about 20 minutes; wear proper shoes. The naturist cove beyond the Grotte de Gardanne requires stepping over a low wall on the path and a rough, risky scramble, so it is unsuitable for children, wheelchairs or anyone unsteady on their feet.

Legal context

In France nudity is not an offence in itself; only sexual exhibition (Code pénal art. 222-32) is punished, and courts and prefects have long accepted nude bathing where it is customary. Nudity is tolerated on the cove beyond the Grotte de Gardanne by custom; the departmental park has no naturist designation (2026).

Naturism at Plage de l'Aiguille (Théoule-sur-Mer) sits under France's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
