About Plage de Stagnolu

Stagnolu is a small beach of about 300 m of fine, faintly pink sand in the countryside west of Bonifacio, at the southern tip of Corsica. It sits in a shallow bay between granite hills and low dunes, inside the Bouches de Bonifacio nature reserve, a short walk west of the busier and more family-oriented Tonnara (Tunara) beach. It is one of very few places in the commune where nudity is allowed: the authorised naturist sector is a marked part of the beach, shown on a map published by the Corsican tourism agency, and naturism is forbidden on the rest of the beach and everywhere else in Bonifacio. The setting is open and scrubby, with little natural shade, and the bay is used as a boat anchorage in summer, so expect some moored yachts. The seabed drops off quickly, which suits confident swimmers more than small children. Walkers on the coastal path towards Capu di Fenu pass along the shore, and the reserve rules apply, so stay off the dunes and take all rubbish away.

Getting there

Drive to the Tonnara (Tunara) beach west of Bonifacio and park in its car park. From there take the coastal path to the left (west); Stagnolu is about a ten-minute walk on an easy sandy and rocky path. The path continues along the coast towards Capu di Fenu. There is no road to the beach itself and no step-free route.

What visitors say

Visitors describe Stagnolu as a small, calm and attractive beach, quieter than neighbouring Tonnara, with clear water and a natural setting. Some note boats anchoring in the bay in high summer and the lack of shade. People stress staying inside the marked naturist sector, since the commune enforces the ban elsewhere, and recommend bringing water and a parasol.
