About Plage Naturiste du Luzeronde
Luzéronde is a long sandy beach on the north-west coast of the Île de Noirmoutier in Vendée, between L'Herbaudière to the north and L'Épine to the south, backed by dunes, the Bois de Luzéronde and the island's salt marshes. It curves for more than 2 km, with fine sand, some pebbles depending on the tide, and small sheltered coves towards L'Herbaudière. The northern part, near the sailing school, is a family beach with gently shelving water. Naturism is tolerated on the southern part, starting at the blockhouse and running towards L'Épine; reviewers place the start after two rows of wooden posts and say a sign marks it, though it is easy to miss. It is generally described as the only beach on the island where nude bathing is tolerated. The naturist stretch is quiet, wild and unbuilt, with dunes behind, and is popular for sunsets. Walkers heading to L'Épine pass along the shore, so the area is not secluded. Currents can be strong here at times, and jellyfish are reported in some summers.
Getting there
From Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, head to L'Épine and Port-Morin, then follow the road towards the sailing school. Small free car parks are at the Mûrier hamlet (rue de Luzéronde, few spaces) and on rue de Guérande, from where a path crosses the dunes. The beach can also be reached on the coastal path from L'Herbaudière or by bike along the salt-marsh tracks. Walk south past the blockhouse to the naturist section. No facilities in the naturist area.
What visitors say
Visitors describe a wide, wild, uncrowded beach with clear water and fine sunsets, where nude and clothed bathers generally coexist without problems. The family-oriented northern end and the naturist southern end are well separated. Complaints include a poorly placed sign that makes the zone's start unclear, occasional voyeurs in the dunes, jellyfish, and currents that make swimming risky at times. Some parents find the naturist presence awkward.

Legal context
In France, nudity is not banned as such, but exposing oneself in a public place can be prosecuted as sexual exhibition (Penal Code art. 222-32); nude bathing is therefore safe only where it is authorised or clearly tolerated. Nude bathing has long been tolerated on the southern part of Luzéronde, past the blockhouse, and a sign reportedly marks the zone; we found no municipal decree or tourist-office confirmation (checked 2026). Reviewers say the L'Épine end is less tolerant of nudity.
Naturism at Plage Naturiste du Luzeronde sits under France's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
