About Plage Naturiste de La Maïre
The Sérignan naturist beach, near La Grande Maïre at the south-western end of Sérignan-Plage (Hérault), is one of the longest-established naturist beaches in France. It sits between the Orpellières nature reserve, a protected area of dunes and lagoons near the mouth of the Orb, and two naturist campsites, Sérignan Plage Nature and Le Clos de Ferrand. Boards marked 'Zone naturiste' define its limits. The beach is wide fine sand backed by dunes, with a gently shelving sea, and it carries a lifeguard post in summer. It has a strong family character: many of the visitors are families staying at the adjacent naturist campsites, and there is a beach-volleyball court for naturists. Walking north-east you pass the textile Sérignan Plage campsite and its beach. A northerly wind can be strong on some days. Sérignan's beaches held a Blue Flag in 2019.
Getting there
From the D37E11 enter Sérignan-Plage, turn right towards 'Le Sérignan Plage Nature', then left after the long straight road; car park 1 is about 100 m further on the right and is free. Paths through the dunes lead to the middle or western part of the naturist beach, and a small dune path gives another way in. The naturist campsites are a short walk away.
What visitors say
Visitors describe a busy, sociable and family-oriented naturist beach, closely tied to the neighbouring naturist campsites. The fine sand, clean water, lifeguards and easy free parking are often praised. The main drawback mentioned is the wind on some days, and in peak summer the beach can be crowded. Those wanting more solitude walk towards the Orpellières reserve end.

Legal context
France.fr records a municipal authorisation for a family naturist beach at Sérignan Plage dated 24 June 1972, marked by signs near Sérignan Plage Nature and Le Clos de Ferrand; the 2024 Sérignan tourist-office beach map also marks a 'Plage naturiste' beside the Grande Maïre. In France simple nudity is not itself an offence, but 'exhibition sexuelle' (Penal Code art. 222-32) can be charged where nudity is imposed on others, so nudity is safest on beaches authorised or tolerated by the commune.
Naturism at Plage Naturiste de La Maïre sits under France's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
