About Naturist beach Bocal du Tech

The Bocal du Tech beach is a wild stretch of sand at the mouth of the river Tech, on the boundary of Argelès-sur-Mer and Elne between Saint-Cyprien and Argelès on the Roussillon coast. Behind it lies the Mas Larrieu national nature reserve, about 160 hectares of dunes, wetlands, reed beds and riverside woodland with a discovery trail and information panels. The beach next to the reserve is used by naturists, and nautical and gay travel guides describe it as naturist; one review places the naturist part on a section of roughly 200 m, while another describes about 700 m of fine sand shared by clothed and nude visitors. Neither the reserve nor the tourist board mentions a naturist designation. The sand is mixed with gravel and the beach shelves steeply, and guides warn that waves can be strong, so it is not ideal for small children or weak swimmers. The beach has a reputation as one of the gay-friendly spots of the Pyrénées-Orientales, and the reserve has been the subject of a rehabilitation project to channel visitor flows, so access paths may change.

Getting there

From Saint-Cyprien, head south and turn toward the sea at the roundabout after the town, following the road to its dead end near the campsite, where there is a large car park; then take the path to the right through the reserve to the beach. Some visitors report a rough, rocky dirt track and prefer to walk in from the campsite. Stay on marked paths in the reserve. The reserve office is on Allée F. Buisson, Argelès-sur-Mer.

What visitors say

Reviews describe a natural, undeveloped beach with a mixed crowd of nude and clothed visitors and a noticeable gay presence. Visitors suggest late afternoon for a calmer atmosphere, mention steep shelving and rough waves, and find the reserve's signage confusing. Some note dogs on the beach despite the rules.
