About Plage de Maez an Aod (Beg Léguer)

Maez an Aod is a small, wild beach at the mouth of the Léguer estuary, below the rugged cliffs of the Beg Léguer headland west of Lannion, on the Côte de Granit Rose in Brittany. It faces west across the bay of Lannion, so it catches the afternoon sun and the Atlantic breeze, and the GR34 coastal path runs along the top. Rocks split the beach into two coves: one is used by families, while the other is customarily used by naturists, as the Brittany regional tourism board notes. Nothing has been built here: there are no lifeguards, no cafe and no toilets, and the sand is backed by boulders and granite outcrops. The neighbouring beach of Goas Lagorn, a short way along the coast, is easier to reach and lifeguarded in summer, which keeps Maez an Aod quiet even in August.

Getting there

From Lannion follow signs for Beg Léguer and the coast. The car park is fairly far from the beach, so expect a walk of several minutes on the GR34 and then a descent among rocks to the sand. There is no direct road access and no facilities, so bring water and food. The path is uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Lannion has a railway station, but there is no practical public transport to the beach itself.

What visitors say

Guides describe a quiet, unspoilt beach for people who want scenery and calm rather than facilities. The main drawbacks are the distance from the car park and the lack of any services. Visitors recommend the naturist cove separated by rocks and the neighbouring Goas Lagorn for families.

Legal context

In France nudity is not an offence in itself; only sexual exhibition (Code pénal art. 222-32) is punished, and courts and prefects have long accepted nude bathing where it is customary. The regional tourism board acknowledges that the beach is partly used by naturists (2026), but no municipal designation or signage was found; keep to the naturist cove.

Naturism at Plage de Maez an Aod (Beg Léguer) sits under France's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
