About Plage Naturiste du Petit Pont
Plage du Petit Pont is a wild Atlantic beach on the Vendée coast at the northern end of Bretignolles-sur-Mer, about 3 km north of the town, towards Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It continues the long sandy shoreline north of La Sauzaie and is backed by a high, undeveloped dune that is private land and a Natura 2000 site, fragile and fenced in places. France's national tourism site notes that nude bathing is permitted here, and beach guides call it one of the best naturist beaches in Vendée. The beach is broad and long enough to find space even in mid-summer. Clothed and nude bathers share the sand, with naturists generally spread along the main stretch below the dune. There are no buildings or services on the beach itself, though a restaurant named after the Petit Pont is nearby. The Atlantic surf can be strong, and the naturist area is not supervised; some reviewers say swimming is prohibited, so check signs on arrival.
Getting there
From Bretignolles, take the coast road (Corniche) and then the D38, rue de la Grande Sauzaie, north. About 2 km past La Sauzaie beach, turn left onto a 200 m track to the car park (free; spaces fill on summer afternoons). Paths lead over the dune to the beach in under 10 minutes, about 500 m. Stay on the marked paths and keep off the dune. No public transport to the beach and no wheelchair-adapted access.
What visitors say
Reviewers like the beach's size and wild setting, saying it is easy to find space even in August, and describe a mixed but relaxed crowd of nude and clothed visitors. Complaints include a car park that fills up, a longish walk, horse rides that damage the dune paths, and an odd atmosphere in the car park at dusk. Several stress that swimming is unsupervised and may be prohibited.

Legal context
In France, nudity is not banned as such, but exposing oneself in a public place can be prosecuted as sexual exhibition (Penal Code art. 222-32); nude bathing is therefore safe only where it is authorised or clearly tolerated. France's national tourism site (France.fr) states that nudism is permitted on the Plage du Petit Pont, north of Bretignolles-sur-Mer. The dune behind is private Natura 2000 land, so naturism and walking there are not allowed (checked 2026).
Naturism at Plage Naturiste du Petit Pont sits under France's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
