About Port-Leucate Naturist Beach
Port-Leucate's naturist beach lies on the Aude coast between Narbonne and Perpignan, on the strip of sand between the harbour breakwater and the Grau de Leucate channel that links the Salses-Leucate lagoon with the sea. Roughly 1 km long, it fronts the naturist quarter of Port-Leucate, a peninsula of independent naturist residences and villages (Aphrodite, Oasis, Ulysse, Le Mas de la Plage and others) reached by bridges over the channel; the tourist office presents Leucate as one of the main naturist destinations in the south of France. The beach is fine sand backed by small vegetated dunes, with a few coves, and the sea is generally clean. Unlike most French naturist beaches it is reserved for naturists: clothed sunbathing is not expected here. It is supervised by lifeguards in summer, at a central post and near the breakwater by the Aphrodite village. The coast is very windy, with the tramontane blowing often, which also makes the area a kitesurfing and windsurfing hub.
Getting there
From the A9 (exit Leucate), follow the D627 toward Port-Leucate and the naturist villages, then turn left at the roundabout for the public car park on rue de la Nature; the beach is about 200 m from there. Parking is free, though visitors find it small in August. Residents of the naturist villages reach the sand along paths between the residences, open to anyone who is nude. The tourist office lists the beach in its accessibility guide; the approach is flat but sandy.
What visitors say
Reviewers rate the Port-Leucate naturist beach highly: respectful, calm and family-oriented, clean, and not overcrowded even in August, with good bathing. The most common complaint is the wind, followed by a car park that fills up in high season. An older report mentioned voyeurs at peak times, but more recent visitors say they saw none. Several note that the naturist residences make it easy to stay nude all day.
