About Plage Naturiste de la Batterie

La Batterie is a small naturist beach in Vallauris Golfe-Juan on the Côte d'Azur, on the coast between Golfe-Juan and Cannes, below the main coast road. It is not a single beach but a string of three small sections: a first area about 20 m wide reached through a passage under the road, then two narrow coves with fine sand to the left, and a further section reached by stairs. Most of the shore is large rocks and smooth pebbles, so reef shoes and a thick mat help. The water is clear and the view takes in the bay and the Lérins Islands off Cannes. The beach is looked after by a local naturist club affiliated to the French Naturist Federation, and France's official tourism site names it as a naturist beach tolerated by the municipality, frequented by Club Naturiste and Club Horizon members. The crowd mixes couples, families, older men and gay men, with gay men more at either end. A 2024 visitor counted about 40 people on a sunny weekday; Sundays get crowded.

Getting there

Bus 200 (Nice-Cannes) stops at 'Batterie', a short walk away. Two sets of steps lead down from the main road, either side of the petrol station, and a tunnel under the road leads to the first section. Car parking is very difficult: a few spaces behind the petrol station, otherwise park towards Pointe Croisette and walk about 1.5 km along the pavement. Scooters can park near the north staircase. Not wheelchair accessible.

What visitors say

Visitors praise the clear water, views of the Lérins Islands and a friendly atmosphere, and note the beach is kept clean by the club. The rocky terrain, lack of toilets and food, difficult parking and weekend crowding are the main complaints. Several reviews, including one blog, report men behaving inappropriately on the rocks, which some solo visitors found uncomfortable, while others saw no problems. Bus access is easy. Photographing others is not tolerated.

Legal context

France.fr describes La Batterie as a naturist beach tolerated by the Vallauris Golfe-Juan council (no authorisation date given); the beach directory plages.tv likewise calls it tolerated rather than formally authorised. No enforcement problems reported. In France simple nudity is not itself an offence, but 'exhibition sexuelle' (Penal Code art. 222-32) can be charged where nudity is imposed on others, so nudity is safest on beaches authorised or tolerated by the commune.

Naturism at Plage Naturiste de la Batterie sits under France's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
