About Plage naturiste d'Opale de Berck
Berck-sur-Mer, on the Côte d'Opale in Pas-de-Calais, has a naturist stretch on the wide, flat beach north of the town centre, on the way towards the Baie d'Authie. Past the supervised family beaches and the line of Second World War blockhouses, the beach becomes wilder, backed by dunes that are part of the protected Espace Naturel des Dunes of more than 300 hectares. A local swimming club's 2026 guide to Berck describes this northern section as a naturist beach more than 1 km long, reached by following signs for 'Plage Nord-Nature' and parking at the Terminus car park. It is one of the few naturist beaches in Hauts-de-France. The sand is fine and the tide goes out a very long way, exposing huge flats; sand yachts and clothed walkers cross the area, especially at low tide, so it is not exclusively nude. Swimming here is not recommended: there are tidal pools and soft, waterlogged patches of sand, and no lifeguards. Seals can be seen resting on the sandbanks further along the bay, best observed from a distance.
Getting there
From Berck centre, head north along the seafront and follow signs for 'Plage Nord-Nature'. Park at the car park known as the 'parking du Terminus', then walk north along the beach past the blockhouses to the naturist section. Berck has bus links from Rang-du-Fliers station on the Paris-Boulogne line. The walk is on flat sand, but there are no facilities and no wheelchair-adapted access to the naturist area.

Legal context
In France, nudity is not banned as such, but exposing oneself in a public place can be prosecuted as sexual exhibition (Penal Code art. 222-32); nude bathing is therefore safe only where it is authorised or clearly tolerated. A naturist area north of Berck is widely described by guides and signed locally as 'Plage Nord-Nature', but we found no municipal decree or tourist-office page confirming its status (checked 2026). Swimming is unsupervised; the supervised bathing area is at the town beach.
Naturism at Plage naturiste d'Opale de Berck sits under France's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Researched 24 October 2026. No official source confirms naturist status, so treat it as unverified.
