About Plage des Cabanes de Fleury

The Cabanes de Fleury naturist area is a section of the long sand beach south of Les Cabanes de Fleury, a small fishing hamlet at the mouth of the river Aude in the commune of Fleury (Aude). From the beach entrance by the lifeguard post, the textile beach runs south for about 350 m until a board marks the start of the 'zone naturiste', which continues towards the former La Grande Cosse campsite; beyond that, past a strip of textile beach, lies the separate Pissevache naturist area. The sand is fine, the beach is broad and flat, and the sea shelves gently. Being the closest naturist stretch to a large car park and a campsite, it is the busier of Fleury's two naturist areas: in August it can feel crowded, with naturists close together and textile bathers spilling into the zone from the small textile section. Boats often anchor offshore in summer and their crews sometimes come ashore in swimwear. Expect a mixed crowd of couples and families in high season and much more space in June and September.

Getting there

From the D718 follow 'Parking Plage' signs into Les Cabanes de Fleury, past the municipal Rive d'Aude campsite, to a large free car park just behind the beach. Walk onto the beach by the lifeguard post and turn right (south) for about 350 m to the naturist sign. The walk is on flat sand; there is no hard path along the beach, so wheelchair access is limited. The bathing area in front of the textile section is supervised in summer; the naturist part has no facilities.

What visitors say

Visitors describe it as an easy, convenient naturist beach thanks to the big free car park and short walk, but very busy in July and August. A common complaint is textile beachgoers inside the naturist zone, sometimes close to naturists, and anchored boats offshore; most naturists seem unbothered. Those who want more room walk on south to Pissevache. Sand and water quality are generally praised.

Legal context

The naturist zone is signposted on the beach (boards seen in 2019), but no municipal decree or official listing for this section was found; the commune's 1974 authorisation recorded by France.fr refers to Pisse-Vache further south. In France simple nudity is not itself an offence, but 'exhibition sexuelle' (Penal Code art. 222-32) can be charged where nudity is imposed on others, so nudity is safest on beaches authorised or tolerated by the commune.

Naturism at Plage des Cabanes de Fleury sits under France's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
