About Happy Bay Beach
Happy Bay is a small, undeveloped cove on the French side of Saint-Martin, just north of Friar's Bay and between Friar's Bay and Grand Case. It is reached only on foot. It is a gentle curve of white sand with calm, clear turquoise water, framed by green hills on both sides, and a few tall palms give some shade. There are no bars, sunbed rentals or vendors, which makes it one of the quietest beaches on the island. Clothing is optional in practice. Guides list it as one of the island's main nude beaches, alongside the naturist end of Orient Bay. There is no designated nude section, so visitors choose their own spot and nude and clothed bathers share the sand. One naturist listing says nudity is most common on the right-hand (western) side. Calm conditions make it good for swimming and snorkelling. Guides describe it as small and rarely crowded.
Getting there
Drive to Friar's Bay and park at the Friar's Bay beach parking area. From the northern end of Friar's Bay, a marked path climbs over the headland through the scrub to Happy Bay, about 10-15 minutes on foot. The path is uneven, so wear proper shoes rather than flip-flops. There is no vehicle access to the beach and no wheelchair access.
What visitors say
Guides and visitors describe Happy Bay as a quiet, unspoiled cove with soft sand and calm water, worth the short hike from Friar's Bay. They say clothing is optional in practice and that nude and clothed visitors mix without fuss, with nudity more common on one side. Visitors stress there are no facilities, so bring water and shade. The walk is easy for most but rough in sandals.
