About Saltsjöbadens friluftsbad
Saltsjöbadens friluftsbad, known locally as Saltisbadet, is an open-air bathhouse built out over the sea in Saltsjöbaden, a seaside suburb in Nacka east of Stockholm. Designed by Torben Grut in the early 1900s, it looks like a wooden castle on the water, and it keeps the old spa tradition of separate women's and men's baths alongside a public beach. In the women's bath (Dambadet), bathing with or without a swimsuit is the bather's choice; it is open to women of all ages and boys up to seven. The men's bath (Herrbadet) is men-only and clothing-optional in the morning, from 08:30 to 11:00, and then opens to everyone with swimwear required. The beach section requires swimwear. Wooden decks and ladders lead straight into the brackish Baltic water. The bath opens only in summer.
Legal context & local rules
Nude bathing is permitted by the bath's own rules in the women's bath and in the men's bath from 08:30 to 11:00; other times and the beach section require swimwear. Sweden has no general ban on nudity, and single-sex sections are an established bathhouse tradition (checked 2026).
Sweden has no specific criminal law prohibiting public nudity. The "Allemansrätten" (right to roam/freedom to roam) tradition historically protects naturism in natural settings. The Public Order Act ("Ordningslagen") Section 6 prohibits only "offensive behaviour," which requires deliberate intent to disturb public peace — prosecution is extremely rare.

Amundön
Stora Amundön is a hilly island off Askim on the southern edge of Gothenburg, inside the Stora Amundö and Billdal archipelago nature reserve. Its trails cross grassy, rolling ground and heath before reaching bare granite cliffs and boulders along the sea, and the island has small sandy coves, rock bathing and a larger bathing place at Drottningviken on the west side. The naturist area is set apart on the south-western point of the island. Like most of the Gothenburg coast it is rock rather than sand: bathers lie on the rocks and swim from them. A hilly trail of about 4.5 km circles the reserve, so reaching the point takes a walk. Travel writers describe it as a well-visited spot used by both experienced and first-time nude bathers, and the west-facing cliffs are a good place to watch the sunset. There is a public toilet but no kiosk, so bring food and drink.
