About Vecāķi Nude Beach (Vecaki Nude Beach)

Vecāķi, on the Gulf of Riga at the northern edge of Riga, has what is described as Latvia's oldest nudist beach. The nude section is not on the main Vecāķi beach. It is about 1 km further north, around Kalngale, just across the Riga city boundary in Ādaži municipality (Carnikava parish). The coast here is a wide stretch of fine white sand backed by dunes and pine forest, with walking trails behind. Sea breezes are the main drawback, and guides suggest bringing a windbreak or light jacket even in summer. Nudity is expected in the section but not enforced. LSM's 2024 overview lists Vecāķi among the Latvian beaches where full nudity is allowed. The area is easy to reach by train, so it draws Riga locals on warm weekends. Toilets, changing shelters and cafés are reported along the route from Kalngale station, but they can be stretched in peak season.

Getting there

Take the Riga–Skulte line train from Riga Central to Kalngale station (about 20-25 minutes) and walk a short distance through the forest to the beach. Alternatively get off at Vecāķi and walk about 1 km north along the shore. Parking and a café are reported near Kalngale station. The forest and dune paths are sandy and not wheelchair-friendly.

What visitors say

Guides call it a historic, easy-to-reach nude beach with a wide sandy shore and a pleasant walk through the pines from the train. The common complaints are wind off the gulf and, on busy days, too few toilets. Most visitors are locals rather than tourists. The beach was included in a 2024 international ranking of naturist beaches.

No Riga or Ādaži municipal document naming the zone was found in this research, so the exact boundaries are unconfirmed. Keep to the established section north of Vecāķi towards Kalngale.

Naturism at Vecāķi Nude Beach (Vecaki Nude Beach) sits under Latvia's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
