About Inčupe nudist beach
The Inčupe nudist beach is a roughly 1 km stretch of Gulf of Riga shoreline in Saulkrasti municipality, about 40 km north-east of Riga. It runs south from Baltā kāpa (the White Dune) towards Lilaste. Nudists have used this coast since Soviet times, and its closeness to Riga makes it one of the best-known nude beaches in Latvia. The beach is fine sand backed by forested dunes. Reaching it involves a walk of about 20 minutes through pine woods, which keeps casual traffic down. Saulkrasti municipality regulates the zone in its binding beach regulations. Signs mark where the nudist section begins and ends; after vandals repeatedly broke or removed them, the municipality set the posts in concrete in 2024. In 2025 it amended the regulations to give the zone's location in GPS coordinates so visitors and police can find the boundaries. Some local parents have complained that the boundary is not always clearly visible from the family beaches.
Getting there
Saulkrasti is on the Riga–Skulte railway and on the A1 Via Baltica road, so trains and buses run from Riga. From the Baltā kāpa area, follow the forest paths to the beach and walk south along the shore to the signed nudist section, allowing about 20 minutes on sandy, uneven paths. The forest and dune paths are not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Latvian coverage describes Inčupe as a long-established, popular nude beach thanks to its closeness to Riga. People like the long sandy stretch and the walk through the pines. The recurring complaint is signage. Boundary signs have been broken or removed in several seasons, so textile beach-goers, including families, sometimes walk into the nude area without realising. Some local parents want clearer separation from the regular beach. The municipality has asked residents and visitors to respect nudists' choice to be nude within the zone.
