About Värsnäs nakenbad

The Värsnäs naturist bath is on the north-eastern tip of the Värsnäs peninsula, about 8 km north of Kalmar city centre, inside the Horsö-Värsnäs nature reserve on Kalmarsund. The reserve has two bathing places, both on Värsnäs; the northern one, at Apelviken, is the naturist bath, while the other is used by clothed bathers. The setting is low coastal woodland that is easy to walk through, with many paths, facing the sound towards Öland. The Kalmarsundsleden trail crosses the reserve and a 2.5 km exercise loop starts at the municipal recreation centre in the middle of the peninsula, which also has showers, a sauna and toilets. At the naturist bath itself there are toilets and parking right beside the bathing area. Because it is a nature reserve, the right of public access does not fully apply: camping, unleashed dogs and fires outside fixed fireplaces are banned, and boats must keep below 5 knots in the reserve waters. Visitors arriving by boat can tie up at the jetty at Söröström.

Getting there

From Kalmar take the E22 north exit at the Snurrom roundabout and follow signs towards Värsnäs; the reserve starts after about 3 km. Continue to Värsnäsgården and take the gravel road to the parking beside the naturist bath at the north-eastern tip. Park only in marked spaces. By bus, the nearest stop is Björkenäs (Kalmar), about 3.5 km away: walk the Kalmarsundsleden towards Värsnäs, then use the road, the exercise track or forest paths to the north-east corner.

Legal context

Länsstyrelsen Kalmar's reserve page (seen 2026) states that the northern bathing place at Apelviken is a naturist bath, and Kalmar municipality publishes it as 'Värsnäs naturistbad'. Sweden has no law against nude bathing; nudity only becomes an issue if it amounts to sexual harassment or disorderly conduct towards others. Reserve rules prohibit camping, unleashed dogs and fires outside designated fireplaces.

Naturism at Värsnäs nakenbad sits under Sweden's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
