About Van Tan Club
The Van Tan Nudist Club is a member-owned naturist club in North Vancouver, widely described as Canada's oldest, having been founded in 1939. Its grounds cover about three hectares of forest, landscaped lawns and gardens on the lower slopes of Mount Fromme, above Upper Lynn Valley, with views over Vancouver. The property is rustic and off the grid: there are solar composting toilets, a wood-fired sauna, a hot tub and a small reservoir pool for cooling off, alongside sunny lawns for relaxing and games. It is reached by a gravel road behind a locked gate at the top of Mountain Highway, so visitors are met at the gate by members. The club describes itself as family friendly; children under 19 must be with a parent or guardian. It is affiliated with AANR Western Canada and runs social events through the summer and early autumn, such as a Thanksgiving barbecue in October. Nudity is the norm on the grounds. Because the site sits on a forested mountainside, expect cooler, wetter weather than in the city and a short, rough access road.
Legal context & local rules
Nudity is lawful on private land in British Columbia when not exposed to public view. The grounds are behind a locked gate on private property.
Public nudity is technically illegal under Criminal Code Sections 173-174 (Indecent Acts and Indecent Exposure), but prosecutions are extremely rare. Canadian courts have recognised that naturist activities in designated areas or conducted with non-sexual intent receive strong constitutional protections, creating de facto legal space for genuine naturism.

More naturist places in Canada
View all in Canada →Arbutus Park Club
A non-landed, family-oriented naturist club in the Victoria area, affiliated with AANR's Western Canadian Region. It normally holds monthly nude swims at a rented pool plus other social events, and runs clothed pre-socials where newcomers can meet members first. The club states a firm non-sexual policy. Its swim season has recently been reduced for organiser reasons, so check before planning.
Association naturiste de la Capitale-Nationale (ANCN)
A naturist association for the Quebec City region and a section of the Quebec naturist federation, promoting healthy, inclusive naturism. Its season runs from September to June with indoor nude swims at a rented pool, about eight outdoor Nordic spa evenings under the stars, board-game nights, brunches and nude yoga. In summer members join rallies at Quebec naturist centres. Members get activity discounts, and the free Coup d'oeil newsletter lists upcoming dates.
Bare Creek Bed & Breakfast
A small clothing-optional bed and breakfast in a quiet rural corner of Surrey, within easy reach of Vancouver's sights and shopping. Nudity is welcome throughout the indoor spaces and in privacy-screened outdoor areas, and there is a lounge for reading or conversation. It describes itself as the only clothing-optional accommodation in Surrey and currently lets a single guest room.
Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park
Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park is a year-round naturist park in East Gwillimbury, about an hour north of Toronto, set on 50 acres of the Oak Ridges Moraine within Ontario's Greenbelt. Roughly 19 acres are conservation land and 13 acres untouched forest, with two ponds, a small spring-fed lake, streams and a river. It is a member of the Federation of Canadian Naturists and AANR. The park is explicit that it is not clothing-optional: clothing is worn only for protection, and never when swimming or using the sauna, whirlpool or showers, though first-timers may stay covered while they adjust. Facilities include a solar-heated outdoor salt-water pool, dry and steam saunas, an indoor whirlpool and the Bare Bistro restaurant. The clubhouse holds the office, a store, lounge, sun deck, exercise room, library, laundromat and the New Forest event hall, plus five guest rooms. There are five cabins and more than 100 campsites, most with water and 30-amp power and some with sewer. Activities include volleyball, petanque, mini-golf, table tennis, billiards, canoeing, yoga, walking and cycling, and a children's playground. Families are a central part of its identity.
Beaconia Beach
Beaconia Beach is a long sand beach on the south-east shore of Lake Winnipeg, about 70 km north of Winnipeg and just north of Patricia Beach Provincial Park. Backed by dunes, marsh and forest, it is Manitoba's best-known clothing-optional shore. Clothed families use the stretch nearest the Beaconia parking area, so nude visitors walk south (left) along the shore. The FCN reports that straight couples tend to settle first and gay men gather further toward the south end, where Beaconia meets the north end of Patricia Beach, whose northern half is also used by nude sunbathers, especially on weekdays. A large fallen tree is often taken as the informal boundary between clothed and nude areas at Patricia. The lake is shallow and warms up well in July and August. There are no washrooms, change rooms, food or drinking water at the nude section, and horseflies and mosquitoes can be fierce in midsummer. High lake levels sometimes mean wading through shallows and stepping over fallen trees.
Beechgrove Beach
Beechgrove beach is an informal clothing-optional stretch of Lake Ontario shoreline in Scarborough, at the bottom of Beechgrove Drive by East Point Park and the mouth of Highland Creek in Toronto's far east end. It is sometimes called Bare Bluffs. From the parking lot at the end of the road, paths lead down to a long, narrow beach of sand and stone backed by low bluffs and scrub. Guides mention a large rock painted to mark the nude area along the way. The Federation of Canadian Naturists says the whole long beach is unofficially clothing-optional and that most people walk well past the first point. It is secluded and fairly quiet by day, but it has a reputation as an evening party spot, and visitors repeatedly warn about broken glass in the sand, so keep footwear on. There are no lifeguards, toilets or change rooms. Toronto's only designated clothing-optional beach is Hanlan's Point on the Toronto Islands, so Beechgrove depends on discretion.
