About Valalta Naturist Camping

Valalta is a large naturist campsite a few kilometres north of Rovinj in Istria, Croatia, beside the Lim Canal. Listings describe it as covering about 120 hectares with around 1,750 pitches. The site has a large lagoon-style outdoor pool complex, a marina with full services and a range of sanitary blocks. Its beaches are reserved for naturist guests, according to a listing. Dogs are not accepted. The campsite has won several awards, including a 2024 ADAC Superplatz rating and an ANWB recognition, and it is often called one of Europe's best FKK campsites. Season dates vary between listings, roughly late April to the start of October. Prices, availability and the current rules should be checked with the campsite before travelling, as the sources are a mix of listings and older reviews.

Legal context & local rules

Naturism on a private campsite and its beaches is permitted under the site's rules. I did not check Croatian or Istrian local rules for the beaches.

Croatia is widely regarded as Europe's most naturist-friendly nation and was historically the first European country to open its doors to naturism in 1953. Public nudity is legal and actively accommodated on designated FKK (Freikörperkultur — free body culture) beaches throughout the Adriatic coast. There is no criminal penalty for nudity in designated naturist areas, and Croatia maintains 13+ official naturist campsites and numerous nude beaches.

Bay Bok (FKK Beach)

Bok bay is the naturist end of Sveti Duh beach in the Mandre area of Kolan municipality, on the island of Pag. Sveti Duh is a long sand-and-pebble beach on the Pag bay, looking across to the Velebit range, and it has a campsite of the same name behind it. The main beach is textile and has showers, toilets and beach bars; the nude section is reached by walking along the shore from the main access, and FKK signs mark where it begins. The shoreline there is a mix of flat rock and patches of sand, and the water is clear and shallow for a good distance out, which makes it comfortable for weak swimmers. There is no shade at all, and the usable strip of shore narrows as the tide rises during the day, so it pays to set up well back from the water. Most people on the naturist stretch are nude, with a few clothed walkers passing through. Passing boats occasionally send waves in. The beach is far quieter than the party beaches around Novalja further north.

Bunculuka

Bunculuka is a four-star naturist campground run by the Valamar hotel group, set on the southern shore of the island of Krk just outside the town of Baska. It sits in a bay with a pebbly beach of roughly 300 metres, which the operator describes as the naturist beach, with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. The campsite offers grassed pitches arranged in terraces and a range of camping homes (mobile homes) for couples and families. One directory lists about 400 pitches, although the operator does not publish a total. The resort has a waterfront bistro and lounge, a small shop and market, an outdoor spa, tennis and sports courts, and kayak and paddleboard hire. Pools are available at the nearby Sunny Baska hotel by Valamar rather than on the campsite itself. Pets are welcome in selected areas, and there is a separate dog beach. It is a practical base for exploring Krk, with hiking and cycling routes nearby. Naturism is the principle of the resort, but the operator's pages do not spell out in detail which areas are clothing-optional.

Camp Nudist Vrboska (Glavica Beach)

Camp Nudist is a naturist campsite on the north coast of Hvar, about a kilometre outside the village of Vrboska, run by the Jelsa company Jelkom, which also manages the textile Camp Mina in Jelsa. The camp lies among pine trees directly on the shore and looks across the channel to the island of Brač. Opposite the camp is the islet of Zečevo, often cited as the place where naturism on Hvar began. The Croatian Camping Union lists it as a site of about 2.5 hectares with room for roughly 420 to 450 guests, and its own stony beach of about 800 m reserved for naturists. Facilities include three sanitary blocks with hot water, a washing machine and dryer, a dog-washing area, fridge rental, a camper service point, a children's playground and an inflatable water park, plus a small shop, bar and a grill restaurant. Pets are accepted. Tennis courts, a diving school, bike and boat hire and windsurfing are within about a kilometre.

Camping Kovačine (naturist section)

Combined textile and naturist campsite on the Melin peninsula just outside Cres town. A clothes-free part of the grounds and a dedicated stretch of the Blue Flag pebble beach are set aside for naturists, while the rest of the site is textile. Facilities are extensive: a heated outdoor pool and children's pool, saunas, restaurant, pizzeria and shop, plus kayak, boat and diving hire. A good pick for mixed groups where not everyone wants to go nude.

Camping Polari (FKK section, Punta Eva)

Large Maistra campsite about 3 km south of Rovinj, with a separate 12-hectare area for naturist campers on the Punta Eva (Cape Eva) side of the site. The nude zone has its own gravel and pebble beaches shaded by pines, while the main textile site offers a pool complex, restaurants, a shop, sports and kids' entertainment. Handy for naturists who want Rovinj nearby and a big-resort setting.
