About Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Széchenyi is Budapest's largest thermal bath, a neo-baroque complex in City Park (Városliget) run by the city-owned Budapest Gyógyfürdői Zrt. It is a textile bath: swimwear is required in all the indoor and outdoor pools, including the famous outdoor thermal pools that stay open in winter. The one exception is a naturist sauna section named in the bath's supplementary house rules (Annex 6), which bans sexually provocative behaviour and forbids phones and cameras in that area and at its reception. The same rules require guests at guided sauna sessions (szeánsz) to wear sauna clothing or be covered by a towel or sheet, and ban children under 14 from the saunas. The bath has several saunas, including Finnish and infrared rooms and a cascade sauna heated by thermal steam. We found no official detail on where the naturist section is, its hours or whether it is mixed, so treat this as a textile bath with a limited nude sauna area.

Legal context & local rules

Swimwear is required in all pools; nudity is limited to the naturist sauna section named in the bath's house rules, where photography is banned.

Public nudity at designated naturist venues (particularly Lake Balaton facilities) is de facto legal and recognised by local authorities. Hungary's Criminal Code does not explicitly criminalise non-sexual public nudity in designated naturist spaces. However, unsolicited exposure outside naturist areas may invoke indecent conduct provisions under general public order statutes.

Balatonberény Naturist Beach

Balatonberény's naturist beach lies at the western end of Lake Balaton's south shore, at Hétvezér utca 2 on the west side of the village, about 700 m from the centre and railway station. It is a fenced, ticketed lido run by Balatontourist next to the Berény naturist campsite, and is now Hungary's leading organised naturist site on the lake since Balatonakali closed. Instead of sand, it is a landscaped lawn screened by reed beds, with a large circular sunbathing pier that the municipality calls the biggest built on Balaton. The water is shallow, typical of the south shore, and is entered by an accessible path and wide, low steps. Facilities are extensive for a beach: free sunbeds, benches and sun sails, a playground, beach volleyball, minigolf, table tennis and an outdoor gym, plus a restaurant and bar, sauna and massage. It holds a five-star Blue Flag rating. Families are explicitly catered for, with family tickets, a baby-changing room and children's animation in high season. Most guests are from abroad.

Berény Naturista Kemping

Berény Naturista Kemping is the naturist campsite run by Balatontourist beside the lake at Balatonberény, at the western end of Lake Balaton's south shore. The campsite is part of a larger lakeside complex that also includes the fenced naturist beach, a large circular sunbathing jetty and a restaurant and snack bar. Listings describe about 148 touring pitches and 40 year-round pitches, along with motel rooms, apartments and mobile homes. The site is about 700 metres from the village centre and railway station. The site is open through the main summer season, roughly May to September, with lifeguards on the beach from July to early September. Sports and games are available on site, along with massage and beauty treatments. Reviews are mixed: visitors praise the cleanliness and staff, while older reviews criticise water quality and washroom facilities. The campsite is naturist, and the beach is billed as the only naturist beach on Lake Balaton.

Kiskundorozsma naturist beach and campsite

Sziksósfürdő is a small lake on the sandy plain north-west of Szeged, near Kiskundorozsma, about 12 km from the city centre. On its shore a naturist beach and campsite, known locally as Sziki, occupies a landscaped site of about five hectares with around 100 pitches, roughly half for touring guests. Day visitors can use the beach, and campers have tent and caravan pitches with electricity, rental caravans and small wooden houses. The site has a buffet and fast-food counter, hot and cold showers, a common room, children's play areas indoors and out, barbecue space and a sports area, and it presents itself as a family-oriented naturist place. The lake is shallow with a soft, muddy bottom, and the setting is open and green. The bathing water is registered with the county government office as a natural bathing site and has been rated satisfactory in recent years. It opens from early May to mid- or late September; listings disagree on the closing date, and one recent listing showed no current opening hours, so confirm before travelling.
