Naturism in Serbia

Serbia has no explicit law prohibiting nudism, and public nudity is de facto tolerated in designated river beach areas — particularly along the Danube. The legal framework is informal, with naturism governed by local beach management and long-standing cultural practice rather than statute. General public decency laws apply outside designated zones, though enforcement is rare for discreet, non-sexual nudity.

Kamenjar Danube nudist beach

Informal / Traditional

Kamenjar is a suburban settlement of Novi Sad on the Danube, between the river, Adice and Kameničko Ostrvo. A stretch of the Danube bank near Kamenjar is listed as a nudist beach, used informally by local sunbathers away from the city's main Štrand beach. Facilities are minimal, and the river has strong currents and variable water quality, so many people only sunbathe. Check local conditions before swimming.

Nudist beach

Informal / Traditional

Belgrade's nudist beach occupies a few hundred metres of shore at the far south-western end of Savsko jezero (Sava Lake), the dammed arm of the Sava river that makes Ada Ciganlija the city's main summer bathing area, known locally as the 'Belgrade sea'. Naturists first claimed this end of the lake in the mid-1980s, following the fashion on the Adriatic coast; the managers of Ada at the time refused for years to recognise it, and the nude stretch was squeezed to roughly 300-400 metres as clothed bathers spread along the lake. Today the section is screened from the main promenade and cycle path by dense hedges and trees. The shore is a broad strip of fine, compacted gravel rather than sand, the lake water is calm and warm in July and August, and shade is scarce until late afternoon. Nudity is the norm in the section. The crowd is quieter and older than the rest of Ada, mostly local regulars, couples and solo men, with a known gay-friendly corner; music from lakeside cafés can carry over. There are no toilets, showers, bins or rentals inside the nude section itself; facilities and food are a short walk away along the lake.

Peskara Lake, west shore

Informal / Traditional

Peskara is a former sand-quarry lake in Zrenjanin with a free, sandy municipal beach that is popular with families, open from June to August with lifeguards during the day. The western part of the lake, away from the main beach, is listed as a place where nudists sunbathe and swim. Keep to that quieter shore, be discreet near the family beach and check the lifeguard hours if you plan to swim.

Travel and activity guides

Naturist culture

Serbian naturism is growing, especially among younger urban populations. Neighbouring European naturism culture (Hungary, Croatia) influences acceptance. River culture — particularly Danube summer swimming — supports naturism development. Rural areas remain conservative, but cities like Novi Sad are increasingly liberal.
