About Nudist beach
Belgrade's nudist beach occupies a few hundred metres of shore at the far south-western end of Savsko jezero (Sava Lake), the dammed arm of the Sava river that makes Ada Ciganlija the city's main summer bathing area, known locally as the 'Belgrade sea'. Naturists first claimed this end of the lake in the mid-1980s, following the fashion on the Adriatic coast; the managers of Ada at the time refused for years to recognise it, and the nude stretch was squeezed to roughly 300-400 metres as clothed bathers spread along the lake. Today the section is screened from the main promenade and cycle path by dense hedges and trees. The shore is a broad strip of fine, compacted gravel rather than sand, the lake water is calm and warm in July and August, and shade is scarce until late afternoon. Nudity is the norm in the section. The crowd is quieter and older than the rest of Ada, mostly local regulars, couples and solo men, with a known gay-friendly corner; music from lakeside cafés can carry over. There are no toilets, showers, bins or rentals inside the nude section itself; facilities and food are a short walk away along the lake.
Getting there
Ada Ciganlija is about 4 km south-west of central Belgrade, reached by city buses and taxis, or on foot and by bike over the causeway and cycle paths. Large public car parks surround the complex (paid in season). From the parks or bus stops, walk or cycle west along the flat lakeside promenade to the far end of the lake, where the nude section begins behind the hedges; it lies near the opposite end of the roughly 4 km lake from the main entrance, so cycling or using the western car parks saves a long walk. The approach is flat and paved most of the way. Official bathing hours on Ada are roughly 10:30-18:30 in the June-September season, with lifeguards on the main beaches.
What visitors say
Regulars describe a calm, respectful and relatively quiet spot even when the rest of Ada is packed, valued mainly as the only easy nude bathing option in Belgrade. Common observations are that the crowd skews older and male, that shade is minimal, and that a mat helps on the gravel. Walking further along from the entrance paths gives more privacy. Recent press about an assault in 2025 and the absence of facilities in the section are the main negatives.

Legal context
Serbia has no national law designating nude beaches; indecent or offensive public behaviour can be fined under the Law on Public Peace and Order. The Ada section has been tolerated by the island's operator since the 1980s but no current public designation by JP Ada Ciganlija was found. In August 2025 a foreign visitor was beaten and robbed in the nudist section, so personal security deserves attention.
Naturism at Nudist beach sits under Serbia's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
