Naturism in Finland
Finland is highly tolerant of nudity. Public nudity is permitted in designated areas. Finnish sauna culture is inseparable from naturism — nudity in saunas is universal and expected. The Finnish Naturist Federation (SNY) promotes naturism as part of national culture.

Naturist beaches
All 4 beaches →Pihlajasaaren Naturistiranta
Officially DesignatedPihlajasaari is a pair of small islands joined by a bridge, a short boat ride off southern Helsinki. It is one of the city's most popular summer recreation areas and has no permanent residents. The main public beach is on the western island. The naturist beach is on Eastern Pihlajasaari: a designated unisex area kept apart from the rest of the shore. That makes it one of very few mixed-gender nude beaches in Finland; Seurasaari's nude bathing areas are separated by gender. The naturist shore is mostly rock rather than sand, so it suits sunbathing better than swimming, though people do swim off the rocks. The islands themselves mix rocks, woodland, groves and old villa gardens, and a marked nature trail of about 2-3 km crosses both. Helsinki's city tourism site, MyHelsinki, confirms the naturist beach. On hot days the ferries and the main beach get busy, but the naturist area, a walk across the bridge, is usually calmer.
Seurasaari
Officially DesignatedSeurasaaren uimala is the City of Helsinki's bathing place on Seurasaari island. The island is best known for its open-air museum, and it faces Meilahti, a few kilometres north-west of the city centre. The bathing place dates from 1906 and is treated as culturally significant. It runs mainly as a nude beach, but in the traditional Finnish way: men and women each have their own fenced section, and there is no mixed nude area. That makes it quite different from the unisex naturist shore on Pihlajasaari. Each section has changing shelters, toilets and outdoor showers. On Wednesdays and Sundays the bathing place is in shared use and swimsuits are required, so check the day before you go. Entry is free. No lifeguards are on duty. The fences give each section a more private feel than an open beach. The rest of Seurasaari is wooded parkland with walking paths, which makes a good stop before or after a swim.
