About Seurasaari
Seurasaaren uimala is the City of Helsinki's bathing place on Seurasaari island. The island is best known for its open-air museum, and it faces Meilahti, a few kilometres north-west of the city centre. The bathing place dates from 1906 and is treated as culturally significant. It runs mainly as a nude beach, but in the traditional Finnish way: men and women each have their own fenced section, and there is no mixed nude area. That makes it quite different from the unisex naturist shore on Pihlajasaari. Each section has changing shelters, toilets and outdoor showers. On Wednesdays and Sundays the bathing place is in shared use and swimsuits are required, so check the day before you go. Entry is free. No lifeguards are on duty. The fences give each section a more private feel than an open beach. The rest of Seurasaari is wooded parkland with walking paths, which makes a good stop before or after a swim.
Getting there
Seurasaari is joined to the mainland by a footbridge from the Meilahti side; cars cannot cross. There is no parking area near the island, so the City of Helsinki recommends public transport or a city bike. Buses run from central Helsinki to the Seurasaari stop at the bridge. Use the HSL journey planner for current lines. From the bridge, the bathing place is a short walk along the island's paths.
