Naturism in Cyprus

Public nudity is technically illegal in Cyprus under Criminal Code Cap. 154 (indecent exposure / publicly baring one's bottom). However, enforcement is minimal at remote beaches, and naturism is widely practised de facto. The Mediterranean tourist economy has fostered a relaxed approach at secluded coastal spots.

Akrotiri Turtle Beach

Informal / Traditional

Akrotiri Turtle Beach is a nudist-friendly beach in Cyprus. Nudity is optional.

Cape Greco

Informal / Traditional

Cape Greco (Kavo Gkreko) is the rocky headland at the south-east corner of Cyprus, between Ayia Napa and Protaras. Most of it is a protected national forest park of low cliffs, sea caves and limestone shelves, with a few small sandy coves such as Konnos Bay on its northern side. There is no designated nude beach here. Instead, a few naturist sources recommend the cape's quieter, harder-to-reach coves and rock platforms for discreet nude bathing, and a hiking-app highlight near the cape is labelled 'Nudist Beach' with a note that it is good for a skinny dip. The water is very clear and deep off the rocks, which suits snorkelling. The rock is sharp and there is almost no natural shade. In midsummer the cape fills with day visitors, boat trips and cliff-jumpers from the nearby resorts, so naturists advise going outside the peak season and keeping to the remoter spots.

North Cyprus Golden Sand Beach

Informal / Traditional

Golden Beach is a long, wide sweep of fine golden sand near the tip of the Karpas peninsula in Northern Cyprus, east of Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz). It is one of the island's least developed beaches: dunes behind the sand, a few basic kiosks, and no resort, club or entry gate. The beach is an important nesting site for sea turtles, and camping on it is prohibited. It is known as an unofficial nudist beach, with nude sunbathers keeping to the western part of the bay, away from the kiosks; this is tolerance, not designation. Because the beach is several kilometres long and remote, there is usually plenty of space. There are no lifeguards and little natural shade.
