About North Cyprus Golden Sand Beach

Golden Beach is a long, wide sweep of fine golden sand near the tip of the Karpas peninsula in Northern Cyprus, east of Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz). It is one of the island's least developed beaches: dunes behind the sand, a few basic kiosks, and no resort, club or entry gate. The beach is an important nesting site for sea turtles, and camping on it is prohibited. It is known as an unofficial nudist beach, with nude sunbathers keeping to the western part of the bay, away from the kiosks; this is tolerance, not designation. Because the beach is several kilometres long and remote, there is usually plenty of space. There are no lifeguards and little natural shade.

Getting there

Golden Beach is a long drive from Kyrenia or Famagusta: follow the main Karpas road through Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz) toward Apostolos Andreas monastery and turn off at the signs for Golden Beach. There are informal parking areas near the kiosks; walk west along the sand for the quieter, nude-used section. No useful public transport reaches the beach. Sand access only, not wheelchair friendly.

What visitors say

Visitors describe a remote, unspoilt beach with soft sand and clear water, and enjoy the long drive through the Karpas peninsula. Nude sunbathing is reported in the less crowded western stretches, and people say discretion is expected. Kiosks are basic and can run out of supplies on busy days, so bring water and shade.
