About Zona nudista Arenas Rojas

This is the nudist zone at the eastern end of La Tejita beach, at the foot of Montaña Roja, the red volcanic cone just south-west of El Médano in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, southern Tenerife. La Tejita is about 1 km of golden sand, one of the few long natural sand beaches in the south of the island, and Montaña Roja is a protected nature reserve. The western half near the car park is used by clothed beachgoers; walking east towards the mountain, the beach becomes more private and nude bathing is the norm close to the base of the cone, where the reddish rock and sand give the spot its name. The Canary Islands tourism board lists a nudist zone here. This is one of the windiest parts of Tenerife, popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the swell is moderate; bathe with caution as no lifeguards are mentioned. The Spanish Naturist Federation also lists a small beach on the far side of Montaña Roja.

Getting there

La Tejita is reached by road from El Médano or Los Abrigos, with a large car park by the western end of the beach and public bus connections. From the car park, walk east along the sand for about 10-15 minutes towards Montaña Roja for the nudist zone. Paths around the mountain are within a nature reserve; stay on marked trails. Sand access only, not wheelchair-friendly.
