About Zlaté Piesky
Zlaté piesky (Golden Sands) is a former gravel-pit lake on the north-eastern edge of Bratislava, in the Ružinov district close to the D1 motorway. The lake covers about 50 hectares and is run, together with a 28-hectare recreation area, by the city's sports and recreation administration STaRZ. The main bathing area on the campsite side is fenced and charges an entry fee, with sandy beaches, snack bars, a campsite and water sports. A separate part of the shore, on the unfenced side of the lake, has long been used for nude bathing and is free to enter. Unlike the sandy paid beach, the nude section is stony, so a mat or thick towel helps. It is a local lake rather than a destination beach: the people who use it are mainly Bratislava residents coming after work or at weekends, and Slovak press has noted that the nude side tends to be kept cleaner than the textile beaches. A city-approved redevelopment of the wider area, with a promenade and new pool, was announced in 2025, so layouts may change.
Getting there
Zlaté piesky is on the north-east edge of Bratislava by the D1 motorway; city trams and buses run from the centre to the Zlaté piesky stop. The paid Areál zdravia (about 5 euros per adult in recent seasons) is on the campsite side; to reach the free nude area, walk around the lake to the unfenced opposite shore rather than entering the paid gate. There is paid parking at the main complex. Paths around the lake are flat but unsurfaced near the nude shore.
What visitors say
Local press and guides describe the nude side of Zlaté piesky as a relaxed, everyday spot used mostly by Bratislava residents, quieter and free compared with the paid sandy beach. Visitors note the stony ground and recommend something soft to lie on. One local writer observed that the nude shore is noticeably cleaner than the textile beaches. Reports elsewhere in the Bratislava area mention occasional voyeurs, so the usual etiquette of no photos and no staring applies.

Amenities
Legal context
Slovakia has no designated public nude beaches and no law that specifically permits or bans nude bathing; nudity that causes a public nuisance can be treated as a minor offence against public order and fined. The nude area at Zlaté piesky is a long-tolerated custom on the unfenced shore rather than a zone marked by STaRZ (sources from 2017 to 2021). Keep to the established nude area.
Naturism at Zlaté Piesky sits under Slovakia's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Do I have to pay?
No. The nude area is outside the paid Areál zdravia; you reach it by walking around the lake rather than through the entrance gate.

How do I get there by public transport?
Trams and buses run from central Bratislava to the Zlaté piesky stop, then walk around the lake to the far shore.
