About Zarautz Beach

Zarautz has one of the longest beaches in the Basque Country, about 2.5 km of golden sand in front of the town in Gipuzkoa, with strong surf that makes it a major surfing centre. FEN lists the beach as urban and busy, with lifeguards and showers. Nude bathing takes place at its eastern end, beyond the end of the promenade next to the golf course and the Iñurritza biotope, a protected dune area at the river mouth with the largest dune system on the Gipuzkoa coast; a boardwalk lets you visit it. The town-centre stretch is clothed. Services such as lifeguards, showers, toilets and bars are close by in the urban part. Swim carefully: the waves are often strong.

Getting there

Zarautz is on the N-634 and the AP-8 between San Sebastián and Bilbao, with a train station (Euskotren) and buses. Walk east along the promenade to its end by the golf course and continue onto the sand near the Iñurritza dunes. Town car parks are paid and busy in summer.
