About Witty's Lagoon Beach
Witty's Lagoon Regional Park is on the Metchosin shoreline, a rural district west of Victoria on southern Vancouver Island. Its beach is a long strip of sand below a cliff, next to the lagoon that gives the park its name. The clothing-optional part is away from the main beach area. From the bottom of the access stairs you turn right and walk along the sand past a stand of overhanging trees, which the Federation of Canadian Naturists treats as the line between the clothed and nude areas. Sources give the walk as roughly 300 to 500 m. A driftwood log has also marked the start, but storms move it from year to year. The sand is fine, but the water's edge is rocky and covered in barnacles, so anyone planning to swim should bring thick-soled water shoes. The water of the Strait of Juan de Fuca stays cold even in summer. The cliff behind the beach puts it in shade from mid-afternoon, around 3 to 4 pm according to a 2024 report. There are no toilets, food or bins on the nude stretch. Most visitors are local regulars, often couples, and it is often called the most popular nude beach on Vancouver Island. Weekends are busier, and clothed walkers sometimes pass through.
Getting there
Witty's Lagoon Regional Park is off Metchosin Road. The main lot at the park entrance leads to a trail through the woods and a long wooden staircase down to the shore. A smaller lot off Witty's Beach Road gives a more direct route, also by a long staircase. At the bottom, turn right and walk about 300 to 500 m along the sand past the overhanging trees. BC Transit buses run from Victoria (route 50, then a transfer to route 54 or 55 toward Metchosin), but they run only every few hours. The stairs and soft sand make the nude area unsuitable for wheelchairs. We did not find any parking charge.
What visitors say
Visitors mostly describe a relaxed, friendly beach with regulars who know each other, and they praise the scenery and the sand. The drawbacks they mention most are the barnacle-covered rocks at the water's edge, the early afternoon shade from the cliff, and the fact that you have to bring everything yourself. On weekends it can get busy. Fog and rain can come in fast, and a few clothed walkers pass through. Reviews on Nude Beach Map average about 4 out of 5.

Legal context
Witty's Lagoon is a Capital Regional District park, and no authority has designated a clothing-optional area here. The FCN lists it as one of Canada's unofficial nude-use beaches, where nudity is tolerated by custom. CHEK News has reported a police investigation into an indecent act in the nude part of the park. We could not open the article to confirm its date, so the conduct expected here is the same as at any public beach.
Naturism at Witty's Lagoon Beach sits under Canada's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
