About Wadham Rocks Beach

Wadham Rocks is a small, remote sandy cove on the South Hams coast of Devon, reached from a country lane (nearest postcode PL8 1HG). British Naturism lists it as a beach where naturism is known. The main part of the cove is used by clothed visitors; the nude area is reached by clambering over the rocks to the next stretch of sand. Low vertical cliffs back the beach, giving seclusion, and the water is described as safe for swimming in calm conditions. It is hard to find, which keeps it quiet. The biggest constraint is the tide: the beach is only reachable for roughly three to four hours either side of high tide according to BN's entry, so plan carefully to avoid being cut off. There are no facilities, lifeguards or shops.

Getting there

Park in the small roadside space on the lane (nearest postcode PL8 1HG, cars only), about 800 m from the beach. Follow the public footpath down toward the coast; the final section is steep. Once on the sand, cross the rocks to reach the naturist part. Check tide times before setting out. No public transport nearby, and not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone unsteady on rocks.

Legal context

There is no designation; naturism is customary rather than authorised. Nudity in England is lawful unless intended to cause alarm or distress, so discreet use away from the clothed section is the norm.

Naturism at Wadham Rocks Beach sits under United Kingdom's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
