About Čunovo Lakes Nude Beach

The Čunovo lakes are flooded gravel pits on the southern edge of Bratislava, near the Danube and the Hungarian border, inside the Dunajské luhy protected landscape area and the Ostrovné lúčky nature reserve. Together with the lake at neighbouring Rusovce, they were among the first places chosen by Slovakia's pioneering nudists, and the shore is still used for nude sunbathing on hot days. Officially, however, bathing here is forbidden: the reserve has the fourth level of protection, a visitor bathing zone created in 2009 was later cancelled by the regional environment office, and the shores hold rare plants including orchids. There are no facilities, no lifeguard and no managed beach.

Getting there

Čunovo is reached by car on the road south from Bratislava-Petržalka, or by city bus to Čunovo village, then on foot or by bike. Parking along the access road has been restricted with solid road markings, and a barrier and no-entry sign close the track into the reserve. Bathing in the lakes is prohibited under nature-protection law, so visitors use the shore at their own risk. No facilities or wheelchair access.

Legal context

Slovakia has no national law against nudity, but bathing in the Čunovo lakes is banned under the nature-protection act, with fines of up to about 9,958 EUR (TASR, 2016). In 2024 the neighbouring district of Rusovce moved to ban nudism at its lake on police advice, so check current local rules.

Naturism at Čunovo Lakes Nude Beach sits under Slovakia's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
