About Baker Beach (Trinidad)
Baker Beach, often called Baker's Beach, is a small crescent cove on the Humboldt County coast just south of Trinidad, reached from Scenic Drive, the old coast road between Trinidad and Westhaven, about 12 miles north of Arcata. It is not the better-known Baker Beach in San Francisco. Thick coastal greenery screens the cove from the road above, and the shore is made of fine pebbles rather than sand, with tide pools at low tide and agates to look for along the waterline. Driftwood piles up at the back of the beach. Nude use has been customary here for decades and is tolerated rather than designated: a 2010 San Francisco Bay Guardian piece described a mixed crowd of nude and clothed visitors, mostly young people from the Arcata area plus the odd family, usually a dozen or fewer, with more on the hottest days. Fog is common in summer, the water is cold, and the surf, rocks and currents make swimming risky. There is no lifeguard and no facilities.
Getting there
Take Highway 101 to the Westhaven exit, then follow Scenic Drive north (or from Trinidad, drive south on Scenic Drive about 1.4 miles to around Baker Ranch Road). Look for cars pulled over by the road and a trailhead post on the ocean side; parking is a handful of roadside spaces, free. A path of about a quarter mile leads down through the trees; one account calls it easy, while directories mention steep sections with steps and a ladder. Wear proper shoes. No public transport and no wheelchair access. Car break-ins have been reported, so leave nothing visible.
What visitors say
Accounts describe a quiet, secluded cove where nude and clothed visitors mix without fuss, with numbers lower than in its heyday. People value the privacy, the tide pools and agate hunting, but warn about cold water, fog, strong surf and the steep final stretch of trail. Gawkers and car break-ins were mentioned as occasional problems in older reports, and descriptions of the trail difficulty vary from easy to steep with a ladder.

Legal context
California has no general ban on nudity; Penal Code 314 targets lewd exposure, and simple nude sunbathing is not an offence unless a local ordinance applies. No Humboldt County or Trinidad ordinance specific to this beach was found, and nude use has long been tolerated (reported 2010). Part of the land behind the beach has been described as private, so stay on the trail.
Naturism at Baker Beach (Trinidad) sits under United States's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
