About Stykkjevika

Stykkjevika is a large sandy beach at the northern end of Fyresvatn, the long lake beside the village of Fyresdal in inland Telemark. A big pine forest stands directly behind the sand, and the beach looks out down the lake. The Norwegian Naturist Federation lists it as an unofficial naturist beach and describes it as very suitable for children, since it is a broad sandy lake beach rather than rocky coast. There are no facilities: no bin, no toilet and no drinking water. Free camping is permitted for up to two days in the forest behind the beach, which makes it an easy overnight stop. Hotels and shops are in Fyresdal centre, a couple of kilometres away. Visitors are asked to leave the place as they would like to find it.

Getting there

Drive along national road Rv 355 to Fyresdal. About 1.5 km north of the centre, near the airfield and roughly 100 m south of the petrol station, turn west toward Birtedalen. After about 1 km, just before a bridge over the river, turn left onto a gravel road. After about 30 m the road forks: go right to reach the beach directly, or left to park in the forest. Buses run to Fyresdal from Oslo and elsewhere.
