About Spiaggia Termitosa
The Termitosa naturist beach lies on the Ionian coast of Puglia in the commune of Castellaneta (province of Taranto), south of the resort strip of Castellaneta Marina, near the mouth of the Lato river. Behind the shore is the pine and Mediterranean scrub of the coastal woodland (sometimes called Bosco della Marina), with low dunes between the trees and the sand. The beach itself is fine golden sand with shallow, clear water. In June 2024 a municipal ordinance signed by mayor Gianni Di Pippa set aside about 150 m of shoreline for naturism, reported as the first officially designated naturist beach in Puglia, and the national federation FENAIT lists it among Italy's officially recognised naturist beaches. The designated strip is short, so the naturist area is compact and easy to find once you reach the river-mouth end. There are no facilities at all: no bar, no toilets, no umbrella rental. Rules reported for the area prohibit sexual behaviour, photographing people without consent and lighting fires. Pine shade near the back of the beach helps in the afternoon, and sunsets over the Ionian are a highlight.
Getting there
Drive from Castellaneta Marina toward the Termitosa area and park near the GranValentino resort; the last stretch of road (about 600 m) is unpaved. From there it is roughly a 1.5 km walk on paths through the pinewood, scrub and dunes to the shore. Seasonal buses run to Castellaneta Marina, but from the centre it is a long walk (around 35 minutes). The beach can also be reached by boat. Sandy paths make it unsuitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Visitors describe a quiet, natural setting with fine sand, clean shallow water and pinewood shade, best in the morning or late afternoon. The main complaints are the lack of any services and weak enforcement: some report clothed onlookers and voyeurs walking through the naturist strip, which undercuts the privacy the designation was meant to give. Bring water, shade and take rubbish home.

Legal context
Italy has no national naturism law; nudity is lawful here because a municipal ordinance of June 2024 (Comune di Castellaneta) designated about 150 m of beach for naturism, and FENAIT lists it as officially recognised. Outside the designated stretch ordinary rules apply. Sexual acts, non-consensual photography and fires are prohibited; reviewers note enforcement is light.
Naturism at Spiaggia Termitosa sits under Italy's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Where do I park?
Near the GranValentino resort south of Castellaneta Marina; the last few hundred metres of road are unpaved. Then walk about 1.5 km through the pinewood.

Is it suitable for families?
Guides describe it as family-friendly: the water is shallow and the setting calm, but there are no services.
When is the best time to go?
May to October; mornings and late afternoons are quieter and cooler, and August is the busiest month.
