About Spiaggia di San Saba
The naturist beach of San Saba lies on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Comune di Messina, in north-east Sicily, at the eastern end of the village of San Saba towards Capo Rasocolmo. It is the far stretch of the long San Saba beach, beyond the large sand hills locals call the Montagne di Sabbia, and you can only reach it on foot. In 2022 the Comune di Messina, then run by an extraordinary commissioner, issued an ordinance setting aside this stretch for naturism, and it is now listed by FENAIT, Italy's national naturist federation, among the country's officially recognised naturist places. Local press describes it as the only authorised naturist beach in Sicily. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles with clear Tyrrhenian water, and the walk in keeps it secluded and fairly quiet compared with the village beach. There are no services on the naturist stretch itself; bars, restaurants and shops are in San Saba village. Views open towards the Aeolian Islands on clear days.
Getting there
San Saba is a village on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Comune di Messina, reached by turning off the SS113 coast road. Park in the village near the San Saba beach (street parking). From there walk east along the shore for several hundred metres, crossing the large sand dunes (Montagne di Sabbia), to the naturist stretch towards Capo Rasocolmo. The walk is on soft sand and not suitable for wheelchairs.
