About Spiaggia di Mari Pintau
Mari Pintau ('painted sea') is a cove on the coast road from Cagliari to Villasimius, in the municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena, about 20 km east of Cagliari near the resort area of Geremeas. Its name comes from the colours of the water, which shifts from emerald to deep blue over a clear seabed. The beach is made of smooth, rounded granite pebbles and stones rather than sand, backed by Mediterranean scrub and rocky slopes. The main cove is a regular public beach, and Sardegna Turismo notes a beach concession with equipment rental and a kiosk-bar. Its naturist reputation rests on the rocks and smaller coves on either side, reached by scrambling over rocks and through wild scrub; Italian travel guides list Mari Pintau among the best-known nudist spots in the province of Cagliari, alongside Cala Fighera and Calamosca. Nude use is informal and discreet, away from the main beach.
Getting there
Mari Pintau is on the SP17 coastal road between Quartu Sant'Elena and Villasimius, around km 20 from Cagliari. There is no formal car park: cars are left free of charge along the unpaved roadside verges, which fill quickly in summer. A short path through the scrub leads down to the main cove; reaching the quieter rocky spots used by nudists means walking over rocks. No public transport stops conveniently, and access is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Legal context
Italy has no national naturism law; the Court of Cassation has held that nudity is not an offence where it is an established custom, but nude bathing is only formally permitted where a municipality or region designates an area. Mari Pintau has no designated naturist area; nude use is tolerated on the rocks away from the main public beach (as of 2026).
Naturism at Spiaggia di Mari Pintau sits under Italy's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
