About Spiaggia della Commenda
The Commenda is a stretch of the Ionian coast at Campomarino di Maruggio, in the province of Taranto, between the Capoccia-Scorcialupi and D'Ayala beaches. The coastline runs for several kilometres, with soft golden sand backed by a fine dune ridge, pine woods, vineyards and olive groves. Sand alternates with low rocks at the water's edge. There are no lidi or beach establishments, so it stays natural. A nude area towards the Campomarino end has been used by naturists for more than twenty years and is described as even quieter than the rest of the beach. It is reached by footpath and feels isolated. The beach is not an official naturist beach, and nudity here has caused friction. In August 2016, after complaints from other bathers, the coast guard, local police and carabinieri cleared a stretch of the Commenda occupied by naturists and fined them. The Italian naturist association protested and asked the municipality to authorise the site. No authorisation has been found since.
Getting there
Campomarino di Maruggio is on the coast road south-east of Taranto. The Commenda lies along this coast between Capoccia and D'Ayala. Parking near the beach is limited and fills fast in summer. Paths cross the dunes to the beach, and the nude area is reached on foot, away from the main access points. Protect the dune vegetation by keeping to the paths. There is no wheelchair access to the naturist end.

Legal context
There is no naturist ordinance for the Commenda, and FENAIT does not list it. In August 2016, police and the coast guard cleared and fined naturists here after complaints, despite what the naturist association called over twenty years of tolerance. Nudity in Italy outside designated beaches can lead to administrative fines.
Naturism at Spiaggia della Commenda sits under Italy's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
