About Serín and La Cagonera Beach
Serín, often listed together with neighbouring La Cagonera, is a 450 m beach of coarse sand and pebbles in Somió, on the eastern edge of Gijón (Asturias), directly below the La Providencia chapel near Cabo de San Lorenzo. It is sheltered from north-westerly winds, so the sea is usually gentle, and FEN notes the water tends to be about a degree warmer than at Gijón's main San Lorenzo beach, which makes it a good spring option. Nude use has grown steadily, and FEN describes it as the busiest nude beach in Asturias today. The bottom is rocky in places, so take care entering the water. FEN lists a lifeguard; there are no showers.
Getting there
City buses 14 and 25 go to the La Providencia area. FEN mentions a free public car park, though some listings say parking is scarce. From the chapel, steep paths and many steps lead down to the beach; visitors often call the access the main drawback, and it can be awkward at high tide. Wear proper shoes.
What visitors say
Visitors value Serín's quiet, natural feel so close to Gijón and the calm water. Most complaints are about the steep, narrow descent with many steps, which can feel risky, especially with the tide in; the pebbly sand and rocky bottom are not to everyone's taste either.
