About Roppestad fristrand
Roppestad is a lakeside naturist beach and free camping area on the east shore of Farris, the large freshwater lake north of Larvik in Vestfold. The Norwegian Naturist Federation lists it as an official naturist beach inside a public recreation area (friområde). This is not a sea beach. It is a small sandy shore with smooth rock slabs (svaberg) running into the lake, backed by grass and woodland, and the water is fresh and calm. The shallow sand suits small children. Naturists are allowed to camp free of charge for up to two days on the naturist part of the site. The wider Roppestad area is also a popular swimming and walking spot for clothed locals, and campervan guides describe the site as divided into a naturist section and a clothed section. There is a large shared barbecue area. A caretaker has been reported on the naturist side in recent seasons. Because the lake is inland, the water warms up earlier in summer than the Skagerrak coast, and you get shelter from sea wind.
Getting there
From Larvik, take national road 40 towards Kongsberg, turn off towards Lysebo at Gjone, keep slightly right towards Siljan after 4.3 km, then continue about 4.5 km to Roppestad (Farrisveien 863). Searching 'Roppestad fristrand' in map apps works. You may drive down to unload, then return the car to the car park. The beach is about 50 m from parking. The access road is narrow for large motorhomes. There is no practical public transport.
What visitors say
Campervan travellers describe Roppestad as a free and simple stopover with water and a toilet, split between a naturist area and a clothed area. They mention a quiet-hours rule at night and a caretaker on the naturist side. Some warn that the narrow access road is awkward for big vehicles. Tourism listings praise the rock slabs, the grass for children to run on and the walking paths along Farris.
