About Ropotamo Mouth
Ropotamo Beach lies where the Ropotamo River enters the Black Sea, between Primorsko and Sozopol on Bulgaria's southern coast, inside the Ropotamo nature reserve. The river ends in a long, wide estuary held back from the sea by sandspits, and the beach is the sandy shore of that river mouth, backed by the reserve's woodland and wetland. Because it sits in a protected area with no road to the sand, it has stayed wild: there are no lifeguards, sunbeds, bars or toilets. welcome.bg, a Bulgarian beach guide, says it is visited mostly by nudists, which makes the whole beach rather than a corner of it the nude area. Arkutino, an organised and family-oriented beach, lies about 2.5 km to the north. Information on this beach is thin, and conditions in the reserve can change, so check locally before planning a visit.
Getting there
Cars cannot reach the beach. Local guides mention two ways in: overland from the coast (Arkutino lies about 2.5 km to the north) or by the river, where boats leave from the old pier beside the Burgas-Tsarevo main road at the Ropotamo bridge; no source we found describes a marked footpath, so ask locally. Allow for walking on soft sand, carry everything you need, and stay on existing paths in the reserve. The beach is not accessible for wheelchairs.
Legal context
Bulgarian law does not clearly regulate nude bathing, and this beach has no official nudist designation; nude use is customary. It lies inside the Ropotamo reserve, so reserve rules on access, camping and disturbance apply. Police have fined nudists after complaints elsewhere on the southern coast (Delfin beach, Tsarevo municipality, reported by Sofia Globe).
Naturism at Ropotamo Mouth sits under Bulgaria's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
