About Racó del Conill
Racó del Conill is a pair of small coves between cliffs on the coast of La Vila Joiosa (Villajoyosa), about 3 km from the town centre and roughly 4 km from Benidorm, though it feels far removed from it. A tongue of rock splits it into two sections; the shore is rock and pebble, surrounded by pines and vertical rock walls, and the sea bed is excellent for snorkelling and diving. Waves can be strong. It is one of the best-known nudist coves on the Costa Blanca and has formal recognition: since May 2021, Article 60 of La Vila Joiosa's beach ordinance classes it as a cove of recommended nudist use, and the Valencian regional tourism board describes it as a naturist area. The municipality has added signs promoting its naturist character. Swimwear is not banned, and naturists say growing numbers of clothed visitors threaten its identity. A small memorial at the viewpoint honours a local naturist who cared for the cove for many years.
Getting there
By car, turn off the La Vila Joiosa-Benidorm road near the casino and follow a narrow road in poor condition down to a small car park above the cove; steps with handrails lead down. On foot, the Sendero de la Costa coastal path from Playa del Torres reaches the cove in about 4 km, passing the Torre de Sant Josep. Not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Visitors describe Racó del Conill as a beautiful, clear-water cove with a strong naturist identity and good snorkelling. The rough access road and limited parking are common complaints, and some regulars regret the rising number of clothed visitors. Tips include bringing water shoes for the rocks, arriving early in summer and not photographing other bathers.
