About Praia Massarandupió

Massarandupió is Bahia's official naturist beach, on the Linha Verde coast about 93 km north of Salvador in Entre Rios municipality. The Entre Rios council declared it a naturist area in 1999, and it is run by the local naturist association (Amanat). The setting is classic northeast Brazil: warm water, a wide sand beach lined with coconut palms, dunes behind, and small freshwater streams running down to the sea. The area is also a sea-turtle nesting zone within an environmental protection area. The naturist strip is about 2 km long, though most visitors use the first 800 m or so. Between the clothed beach and the naturist strip there is a transition zone where nudity is optional, useful for mixed groups. Inside the naturist area, being clothed is not allowed and municipal rules forbid photographing people without consent, sexual behaviour and motor vehicles. Simple beach shacks serve seafood, moquecas and drinks on both the clothed and naturist sides. The village on the approach road has pousadas, hostels and small shops. Entry is free and the beach is open every day; in summer and on Saturdays security staff manage the flow of visitors.

Getting there

From Salvador airport take the BA-099 (Estrada do Coco / Linha Verde) north; after the Porto de Sauípe turn-off a sign marks the turn to Massarandupió, followed by about 7-10 km of dirt road through the village (roughly 1h35 by car). Free parking is available under the coconut palms near the sand. From there it is about a 20-minute walk through dunes and palms to the naturist area. Without a car, the dirt-road leg needs local transport arranged in advance.

Legal context

Massarandupió was declared a naturist area by Entre Rios Municipal Decree 1.571 of 28 July 1999, and Municipal Law 164/2018 sets the conduct rules, administered by the Associação Massarandupiana de Naturismo. Nudity is required inside the naturist strip, while being nude outside it can be treated as an obscene act. Cameras need consent, sexual behaviour is banned, and rule-breakers are expelled (A Tarde, 2024/2025).

Naturism at Praia Massarandupió sits under Brazil's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
