About Praia Lontreira
Praia Lontreira is one of a string of small beaches in the O Carreirón natural park, which covers the southern tip of A Illa de Arousa, an island in the Arousa estuary joined to the mainland by a bridge. The park is a peninsula of about 1.3 km², attached to the rest of the island by the Salinas sandbar. Its coast is a sequence of white-sand coves with calm, sheltered water. Walking south from the car park you pass Xastelas, where nude bathers usually keep to the far end, then A Lameira, Lontreira, Cala As Margaritas, Punta Carreirón, Petóns and Espiños. FEN describes all of these as ideal for nude bathing. The park is part of the Umia-O Grove-A Lanzada-Punta Carreirón protected wetland complex and a special protection area for birds, so dogs are not allowed. Occupancy is low and there are no lifeguards or services on the beaches.
Getting there
Cross the bridge onto A Illa de Arousa and take the turn for the natural park at the entrance roundabout. The road passes two campsites and ends at a small roundabout with a paid car park that is often full in summer, so FEN recommends cycling. From the car park, walk south along coastal paths; Lontreira is a few coves beyond Xastelas and A Lameira. Dogs are not permitted in the park.
