About Praia Lombeira
Lombeira (also spelled Lombreira or Lontreira) is one of a string of small beaches on the O Carreirón Natural Park, the protected southern tip of A Illa de Arousa, an island in the Arousa estuary joined to the mainland by a bridge. The park is a small peninsula of about 1.3 km² linked to the rest of the island by a sandbar at the old salt pans, and it is covered by pine and eucalyptus woods with rocky points and coves of white sand between them. Lombeira takes its name from the rocky Punta Lombreira beside it. The water is calm and sheltered, and there are no services on the beaches. The Spanish Naturist Federation treats the whole chain of Carreirón beaches, Xastelas (nude only at its far end), A Lameira, Lontreira, Cala As Margaritas, Punta Carreirón, Petóns and Espiños, as ideal for nude bathing, and a Galician guide also lists Lontreira among the park's naturist beaches. One beach directory lists Lombreira as non-nudist, so expect a mixed crowd. The park is a bird protection area and dogs are not allowed.
Getting there
Cross the bridge to A Illa de Arousa and take the road from the roundabout at the island entrance towards the park. The road passes two campsites and ends at a small roundabout with a paid car park that is often full, so cycling is recommended. From there, paths through the eucalyptus and pine woods lead to the beaches; Lombeira is a short walk beyond Xastelas and A Lameira. Paths are unpaved.
