About Praia do Salto
Praia do Salto is a small sandy cove just north of the village of Porto Covo, in Sines municipality on the Alentejo coast, within the Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina natural park. It lies between Praia da Cerca Nova to the south and Praia do Cerro da Águia to the north, enclosed by a low cliff that shelters it from the wind and screens it from view. It is one of Portugal's officially recognised naturist beaches; one source dates the designation to 20 August 2002. The cove is wild and undeveloped, with fine sand at the foot of the rocks and clear Atlantic water; its size and the beach left exposed change markedly with the tide, so it is best visited around low or mid tide. There are no facilities on the cove itself; the nearest bar-restaurant is about 800 m away on the neighbouring textile beach.
Getting there
From Lisbon take the A2 (exit 9), the IP8 toward Sines, then the A26 and N120-1 south; near the thermal power station turn right onto the M1109 to Porto Covo. Park at the car park just past Praia da Samoqueira and follow the clifftop trails between Cerro da Águia and Cerca Nova down to the cove. At low tide you can also walk along the shore from the textile beach. Paths are uneven; no wheelchair access.
