About Praia de Xastelas
Xastelas is the first and largest beach in the O Carreirón natural park, the protected southern tip of A Illa de Arousa, an island in the Ría de Arousa linked to the mainland by a bridge. The park is a small peninsula of about 1.3 square kilometres, joined to the rest of the island by a sandy isthmus, with pine woods, dunes and white-sand beaches facing calm water. It is a special protection area for birds, so dogs are not allowed. Because Xastelas is closest to the park car park, it is the busiest and most clothed of the park's beaches; according to the Spanish Naturist Federation, nude bathers are usually found only towards its far end. Beyond it a string of smaller beaches and coves, including A Lameira, Lontreira, Cala As Margaritas, Punta Carreirón, Petóns and Espiños, are all used by naturists, and the federation describes the park as a paradise for nude bathing. Near the entrance there are seasonal kiosks and toilets.
Getting there
Enter the park from the roundabout at the entrance to A Illa de Arousa. The road passes two campsites and ends at a small roundabout with a paid car park that is often full in summer, so the federation recommends coming by bicycle. From the car park, marked footpaths lead to Xastelas and on to the other beaches. No dogs allowed.

Legal context
Public nudity is not an offence in Spain, and the Spanish Naturist Federation (FEN) lists the O Carreirón beaches as naturist beaches. There is no municipal designation; the park is a bird protection area where dogs are banned (2026).
Naturism at Praia de Xastelas sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
