About Praia de Portonovo
This Portonovo is a small cove in Viveiro, on the coast of Lugo in northern Galicia, not to be confused with the resort of Portonovo in Sanxenxo. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a nudist beach and describes it as about 175 metres long and narrow, with white sand, surrounded by vegetation and sheltered by the slopes and hills around it. Its main quirk is the tide: there is a usable strip of sand mainly at high tide, while at low tide the shore becomes too rocky for comfortable swimming. Occupancy is low. There is no lifeguard and no showers. We found no other published description of the beach, so plan to be self-sufficient and check the tide before going. Note: the Spanish Naturist Federation is the only source we found that reports nude bathing here, and other guides do not mention it. Nude use may be occasional or limited to the quieter end, so expect most visitors to be clothed and check on arrival.
Getting there
We found no reliable published route to the beach. The federation classes it as isolated, so expect to walk the last part on a path from the nearest road near Viveiro. Check tide times, as the beach is best near high water. No facilities and no wheelchair access.
Legal context
Public nudity is not an offence in Spain, and the Spanish Naturist Federation (FEN) lists Portonovo (Viveiro) as a nudist beach. There is no municipal naturist designation that we could find (2026).
Naturism at Praia de Portonovo sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
