About Praia de Canaval
Canabal is a small cove in Oleiros on the Golfo Ártabro, just outside A Coruña, below the Mera lighthouses and looking straight across the bay to the Tower of Hercules. It is sheltered by the islet of Mera (Monte Meán), so the water is often calm, and the sea bed is popular for snorkelling and diving. The beach is a short strip of fine sand between rocks. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a beach of nudist tradition; other guides describe it simply as small, secluded and intimate. Occupancy is moderate. There is no lifeguard and no showers, and the beach is unsignposted, which helps keep it discreet despite being close to the city.
Getting there
From Mera, take the road towards the lighthouses (the AC-173 runs nearby); the beach is unsignposted and reached on foot down a path that the federation and the national tourism portal both describe as somewhat difficult. Mera's small harbour is about 2 km away. There is no parking at the beach itself and no wheelchair access.
Legal context
Public nudity is not an offence in Spain, and the Spanish Naturist Federation (FEN) lists Canabal as a beach of nudist tradition. There is no municipal naturist designation or signage (2026).
Naturism at Praia de Canaval sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
