About Praia de Área Longa Ou Baroña
Area Longa, usually called Baroña, is a 350-metre beach of white and golden sand on the outer coast of the Ría de Muros e Noia in Porto do Son, A Coruña. Its northern end is overlooked by the Castro de Baroña, an Iron Age hillfort on a rocky headland, one of the most striking archaeological sites on the Galician coast. The beach is exposed, with strong surf and wind, and is the first of a series of surf beaches running south. It holds a special place in Spanish naturism. In August 1981 the local parish priest led an anti-nudist protest in which villagers carried sticks. A later Supreme Court case over a nudist at Baroña, under the then offence of public scandal, contributed to that offence being removed from the Penal Code in 1988, after which nudity could no longer be prosecuted in Spain. Today it is an established naturist beach. Do not confuse it with Basoñas beach in the same municipality, which is also sometimes called Areas Longas.
Getting there
Baroña lies off the AC-550 coast road between Noia and Ribeira. Park near the Castro de Baroña (one guide suggests by the Cafe-Bar Castro) and walk down the signposted path, about 600 metres, which is steep in places; the beach is just south of the hillfort. The Noia-Ribeira bus stops about 350 metres away. Not wheelchair accessible.

Legal context
Public nudity is not an offence in Spain; Baroña is where a 1980s court case helped remove the public-scandal offence from the Penal Code in 1988. It is listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation but has no municipal naturist designation (2026).
Naturism at Praia de Área Longa Ou Baroña sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
